Welcome, College Fix readers!
Dr. Rebecca L. Sherrick is the college president who, as covered in detail in this blogger’s Oct. 13 post, holds in her hands the fate of Ryan Lonergan.
Ryan is the veteran and grad student at George Williams College in Williams Bay, WI (an affiliate of Aurora University in Aurora, IL) who on Oct. 6 publicly called out (in the school cafeteria) a fellow student who had falsely claimed (in elaborate detail) to having been a Marine infantry officer but who, when confronted by Ryan, confessed he’d made up the whole story.
As a result of the incident, the fake Marine quickly left the school — but not without first filing a false complaint against Ryan claiming that Ryan had physically attacked him and had threatened further physical violence.
Without a hearing, the school banned Ryan from being on campus (except to attend classes), and initiated a disciplinary process in which it indicated Ryan would not be allowed to have the assistance of an attorney.
The latest development (see Update 6 to the Oct. 13 post) is that Dr. Sherrick doesn’t want the disciplinary hearing to be held at George Williams College, where Ryan attends his classes, but instead wants Ryan to travel out of state — an hour and 45 minutes — to Aurora, IL, to have the hearing at the university’s main campus!
But it turns out that Dr. Sherrick may have her own problems.
For one, her written statements regarding this matter have revealed an inability to write with proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling (see Update 4 to the Oct. 13 post), and a tendency to leave out vital words she’d intended to include (see Update 6 to the Oct. 13 post).
For another, there’s the irony that the college president who’s currently persecuting a vet for standing up for himself and other vets when confronted by a “Stolen Valor” offender, alleging that Ryan’s behavior was “disorderly conduct,” was herself recently the subject of a police report about her own disorderly conduct (barging into a private home to scream at a dog owner about her choice of dog).
Yesterday morning conservative talk-radio host Vicki McKenna of Milwaukee’s News/Talk 1130 WISN was the first journalist to delve into the incident, which occurred on June, 2015, near Aurora’s campus in Aurora, IL.
Below is a copiously illustrated video with Vicki’s factual discussion of the incident (a second part, with her suggestions on how to protect students from crazy nutbags such as Dr. Sherrick, will follow later today).
A PDF of the official police report is here (originally uploaded here; blog post discussing it here). A web-readable version, with important parts highlighted in yellow, is here. Excerpts are depicted in the video. Enjoy!
Update (10/15, 11:30 p.m.): Here is the second part of Vicki’s Oct. 14 discussion (starting immediately after the end of the first video), focusing on how to protect college students from out-of-control administrators like Dr. Sherrick.

You are so wrong about Dr. Sherrick, look what she has done for the University for Aurora and the city. And I was there when you say she busted into someone’s house, She didn’t.
Take your witch hunt out and go help people who are devastated by Hurricanes and earthquakes!
Becky is pretty well known as a crazy recluse in the Aurora community. I know her well enough to say she has a mental illness. It actually runs in her family along with alcoholism. While you can argue that she has done good things for the school, anyone who really knew about the horrible, unethical and immoral acts she has committed over the past 18 years would be shocked. I can’t honestly believe she could be so reckless and still gets away with it thus far. Some of the unfortunate folks who have witnessed or been the subject of her abuse were paid vast sums of money to keep quiet. In some cases well into 6 figures. It would not be surprising to see AU in the National news if some of her acts become public. It would be a sad day, however, as it would paint a great institution in a bad way. When she finally retires i imagine people would come out of the woodwork. Members of her senior staff have been complicit.
Who has she paid off? Mental illness and alcohol abuse? Prove it
You are making some big accusations, prove it and I’ll agree with you.
How the hell would you know about her family background?? Step up to the plate, little man, I’ll discuss it with you, unless you are afraid.
Thanks for the additional context. Nice to see someone interested in this post three years later!
I guess she is not so bad since no one answered you in 3 years!!
Your topic isn’t interesting enough
Back up your accusations
